QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Highlander – Competitive REL 15/11/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

I’d been tuning my “Breya Bomber Breach” deck over the last few months and had come to a 75 that I felt really good about. The deck is an artifact based synergy deck with many combos with overlapping pieces. These include but aren’t limited to the “Slush Puppy” combo, bomberman combo, thopter/sword combo and a Karn the Great Creator package. The deck wins by assembling one of it’s combos or by beating down with artifact synergies and value. Although this list “dies to null rod” harder than other “Slush Puppy” decks; I think this deck’s ability to pivot game plans… Read More »QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Highlander – Competitive REL 15/11/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Highlander – Competitive REL 14/08/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

Wow! Thanks to two of our local judges we were still able to fire this event narrowly dodging the greater Brisbane lock down. Tyrone Phillips and Ryan Kruger worked tirelessly through all of the 5 rounds of swiss and the top 8 with Eventlink down (Challonge and spread sheets for tiebreakers). We can’t thank you enough for making this tournament happen!  Congratulations to the top 8 players. Yet again we see the experienced out of towners crushing these events. Brisbane put 7/8 players into the top seats. Lets look at the final results and the decks that made it through… Read More »QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Highlander – Competitive REL 14/08/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

15 players battled it out over 4 rounds at Battlestation, Toowoomba in the first of two events to be held on successive Tuesday nights in July. This event was non-proxy, although there were still a lot of MH2 cards present, especially in the winning decks. In terms of deck archetypes in the room, my rough count was as follows: 2x Jund Midrange, 2x Oracle (Bug and Esper), 2x 4c aggro (Legends and Lurrus delirium), 2x blue moon (one tinker & show and tell), RUG Tempo, RB Aggro (Double mox no proxy!), another UR tolarian artifact deck, Elves, UG miracle grow,… Read More »QLD: Toowoomba 7PH 06/07/2021 (15 players)| Deck Lists & Tournament Report

QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Highlander – Competitive REL (25 players) 15/05/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

First off a big thank you to our two fantastic Judges – Tyrone Philips and Josh Bonser for running a very smooth event. A big thank you to the heap of players that travelled for this event. We had 25 players battling it out for cash prizes over 5 rounds of swiss and a cut to top 8. Congratulations to all our Top 8 players! The top 4 players decided to split the prizes and play for glory and the basic land in the last 2 rounds of event. Congratulations to Aaron and Cameron (Brisbane vs Toowoomba respectively) who made the finals.  Aaron Uniacke on… Read More »QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Highlander – Competitive REL (25 players) 15/05/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

QLD: 7-Point Highlander Tournament Toowoomba Battlestation (33 Players) 20/02/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

I wanted to build upon the “Slush Puppy” combo/control deck that I theory-crafted and piloted to a Top 8 finish in the previous Toowoomba Battlestation event. I feel that the package of Intution/Gifts Ungiven into a deterministic win is incredibly strong and I wanted to experiment with putting it into a more proactive shell. For the uninitiated, the combo in “Slush Puppy” decks consists of casting Intuition into a pile of Lion’s Eye Diamond (LED), Sevinne’s Reclamation and Underworld Breach. You can add Brainfreeze as a 4th card if you’re casting Gifts Ungiven. Regardless of your opponent’s choice you’ll be… Read More »QLD: 7-Point Highlander Tournament Toowoomba Battlestation (33 Players) 20/02/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Fortnightly Highlander (13players) 16/02/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

In preparation for the upcoming Competitive REL event we held a few extra 7 point highlander tournaments over the last month. Just some good old fashioned midrange showed up to play this week. Noted this kind of meta should be a field day for Thoracle and other combo decks like UWR Breach. A few of our players have some very creative ways to fight the combos of both of those decks but we will see how their far those silver bullets can get them this Saturday. Congratuations Ben Nielsen for winning this event with a 4-0 finish he has been… Read More »QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Fortnightly Highlander (13players) 16/02/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

Non proxy event tend to show a higher variance between archtypes in the Toowoomba metagame. A nice wash of classic midrange decks made their way to the top. QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point (Proxy) Highlander (16 Players) 02/02/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

After the big points update at the end of January we sleeved up some proxy cards to test out for the upcoming event COMP REL event in Feb. The pointing of Acall to 5 and Oko to 2 meant a lot of players just simply cut Oko altogether, others chose to push out True-Name Nemesis and some changed colour combinations entirely. Really keen to see the results of the Brisbane vs Gold Coast vs Toowoomba on the 20th of February. *Jimbo Deenie was back at it again with his 200+ card Battle of Wits deck (featuring a proxied name sake).… Read More »QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point (Proxy) Highlander (16 Players) 02/02/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Fortnightly Highlander (14 players) 26/01/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report

What a way to finish Australia Day than to play our favourite format. This non-proxy event’s top 8 decks had a even spread of archetypes – 3 combo decks, 2 control decks, 3 aggro decks, 2 tempo decks and a splash of midrange that blead into other strategies. Only one piece of power in the top 8 in Ancestral Recall. Josh Daven Port – “I played BUG oracle to a 4-0 at Battlestation Toowoomba. On the Deck: My deck is a fairly standard BUG Thoracle deck. Unlike the BEMB boys, I’m not playing mental note/thoughtscour to fuel the whale and cling, instead just having the two GY matters spells in Tasigur and Questing Beast. Some people disagree with playing Questing Beast in this deck, I think it’s fine. I’m playing BUG because I enjoy being a part time mid-range deck, and I think Oko and Uro are good value for 1 point total, especially backed up by Questing Beast. I… Read More »QLD: Toowoomba 7-Point Fortnightly Highlander (14 Players) 12/01/2021 | Deck Lists & Tournament Report
